Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Inside Plant Engineer (ISP Engineer) to join our team. The ISP Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of inside plant infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of network and telecommunications systems. This role requires expertise in fiber optics, cabling, power systems, and networking technologies to support the organization's operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement inside plant network infrastructure, including fiber optics, cabling, and power systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade fiber optic and network systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with field technicians, network engineers, and external vendors to support fiber infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, equipment layouts, fiber splicing plans, and engineering reports.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies related to fiber optic installations.
  • Perform site surveys and assessments to evaluate existing fiber infrastructure and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, and testing of network hardware, fiber optic equipment, and associated components.
  • Manage fiber capacity planning, ensuring adequate power, cooling, and space within network facilities.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field operations and engineering teams regarding fiber optics.
  • Monitor and analyze fiber optic system performance metrics to identify and address potential issues proactively.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in inside plant engineering or a similar role with a focus on fiber optics.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic network design, structured cabling, and telecommunications systems.
  • Proficiency with network hardware, including routers, switches, optical transport equipment, and fiber splicing techniques.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or other network design tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI, TIA/EIA, IEEE, and fiber optic safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and fiber network layouts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as required.

Preferred Certifications:

  • BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer)
  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
  • FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) – Preferred but not required

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork in network facilities or data centers.
  • Exposure to electrical and network equipment, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
