Overview

Camp Program Leader

This position is responsible for leading campers ages 5-16 in a variety of YMCA programs daily, ensuring safety and well-being of campers, participating in planning and implementation of quality YMCA programs and objectives, and serving as a positive role model.

Summer Camp is from June 1 to August 9, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily program in accordance with YMCA policies and ACA standards under the direct supervision of the Camp Director.
  • Implement lesson plans in areas of outdoor education, arts & crafts, cooking, sports or recreational games, drama, singing, team building, and science.
  • Create an age-appropriate learning environment that fosters creativity and individuality in the campers.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and entire camp.
  • Maintain a positive and responsive relationship with staff, campers, and parents.
  • Make sound decisions and take charge of situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Encourage youth positive social skills and appropriate behavior by example.
  • Adhere to work schedule and be prepared for activities at the beginning of each shift.
  • Actively contribute and participate in staff meetings or activities.
  • Work cooperatively with vendors in the camp setting.
  • Adhere to YMCA Dress Code & Code of Conduct and Mission Statement.
  • Work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 core values.
  • The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in all phases of work with campers.
  • Serve as a role model to all campers.
  • Readily adapt to changing situations or tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age and a high school graduate.
  • At least one year experience working with children.
  • Sincere interest in and ability to work with groups of campers ages 5-16, as well as parents and staff of diverse ethnic populations.
  • Skill set to lead campers in at least two of the following areas: recreational games, drama, crafts, outdoor education, songs, sports, aquatics, team building, or science.
  • Skill set to supervise and interact with campers.
  • Complete mandatory 24-hour pre-camp training.
  • In-service trainings and staff meetings as assigned, including Child Abuse Prevention Training.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $17.75 - USD $18.50 /Hr.
