Essel Environmental is hiring a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO).

In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring the projects comply with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and procedures. You will ensure the safety of all employees, make sure all projects are up to code, and provide advice and recommendations for safety improvements.

SSHO Duties and Responsibilities

Below is a list of SSHO responsibilities but not limited to. They may have more duties depending on the project:

1. Collect and Maintain Safety Data Sheets
2. Conduct Monthly Eye Wash Inspections
3. Conduct Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspections
4. Conduct Monthly First Aid Kit Inspections
5. Conduct Safety Orientations
6. Conduct investigations of all accidents and near-misses
7. Daily Equipment Inspections
8. Enforce the Contractor's safety program
9. Inspect site and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
10. Inspect the site to ensure it is hazard-free
11. Maintain Accident Prevention Plan Compliance
12. Obtain, Post & Keep Burn Permits
13. Perform Daily Site Safety Inspections
14. Present Daily Safety Briefings
15. Respond to all safety concerns
16. Stop any unsafe acts or processes that are dangerous or unhealthy
17. Train workers about special safety issues when needed
18. Train and carry out drills for emergency situations
19. Verify that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use
20. Watch out for the safety of all workers on the site
21. Write and review all AHAs

SSHO Qualifications / Requirements

The list below are the most common qualifications required to be an SSHO, however, some projects will require more than this list. Some must have proven experience with Fall Protection (including elevated platforms), Scaffolding, Steel Erection, Excavation, Cranes, etc:

1. First Aid and CPR Certified
2. Have Completed 40 Hour EM 385-1-1 Course
3. Have Completed 30 Hour OSHA Construction Course
4. Have 5 or more years of hands-on construction safety experience as an SSHO

Must be able to submit to a background check and drug test.
