ABCO Laboratories is a contract manufacturing business that works with customers to make and develop a variety of food seasonings, spices, and dietary supplements.

Summary:

The Purchasing Manager will lead and manage all aspects of purchasing and materials to enable profitable growth. Provide sourcing leadership and management by taking full ownership of procurement and logistics supporting the manufacturing department. Plan and execute both short-term and long-term procurement strategies to increase cash profit margin.

The Purchasing Manager will interact with the Managing Director, Production management, Inventory, Sales, R&D, and the Controller. The role requires identifying suppliers, negotiating programs, and building positive relationships. Monitoring and evaluating competitive products and pricing is essential, along with procurement buying experience in a food manufacturing facility.

An ideal candidate has direct dietary ingredient procurement experience, leverages market intelligence for cost reduction and competitive advantage, possesses excellent project management and cross-functional team leadership skills, and can drive implementation plans. The candidate must problem-solve, handle multiple tasks effectively, understand how MRP works, and have commodity buying experience. A bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant procurement management experience in food manufacturing, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work independently are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, manage, and execute ABCO's strategic sourcing plan, including determining current and long-term requirements, tracking progress, and participating in business reviews.
  • Supervise and coordinate purchasing activities.
  • Provide procurement leadership to optimize spend rate and integrate with all teams.
  • Possess exemplary knowledge of MRP programs, including running reports.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and key decision-makers.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to establish the supply chain from raw materials sourcing to distribution.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, R&D, Purchasing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to ensure system and process knowledge.
  • Monitor and evaluate market conditions, products, and pricing.
  • Assist with new item development requests and opportunities with the sales department.
  • Manage raw material opportunity buys when available.
  • Evaluate financial scenarios and recommend actions to senior management.
  • Lead efforts to develop reliable and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed of industry trends and supplier landscapes.
  • Align procurement plans with sales, marketing, operations, and finance to improve cash margins.
  • Apply expertise in supply chain, logistics, and operational excellence to optimize spend.

Schedule: Monday-Friday.

Pay Rate: Salary commensurate with experience.
