The role involves designing substation primary engineering for substations up to 500kV, ensuring compliance with standards and customer requirements. It includes optimizing designs considering constraints, performing detailed substation calculations, and ensuring clash-free layouts through coordination. Responsibilities also cover defining design subsystems for accurate costing, specifying high-voltage equipment, and interfacing with multiple disciplines while reviewing technical documents and system studies. The successful candidate will be based in Sydney and work out of the Sydney project office, Monday to Friday. As the project progresses, travel to site north of Mudgee in regional NSW may be required.

  • The main function of the role is to design the substations for the Central West Orana ACJV project
  • Identify all relevant standards and local Customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / International Standards and contract specifications
  • Understand how the various considerations and constraints affect the design and develop different solutions as part of the design optimisation process
  • Coordinate interference checker and its resolution - Ensure clash-free design based on the definition of clash checks defined by each discipline for internal review steps
  • Prepare substation design calculations e.g. earthing design, busbar sizing, SC fault calculations, lightning protection, battery sizing, cable sizing, cable schedules, circuit breaker selection, bus, fittings, insulator, transformer sizing and arrector selection
  • Define the primary design subsystems and bills of material to a level where the design can be accurately costed
  • Ensure the designs are safe and adhere to the required electrical clearances while providing the necessary provisions for maintenance during the life of the installation
