Overview

Senior Director, Technical Operations Sourcing & Procurement. BioSpace posting for the Senior Director, Technical Operations Sourcing & Procurement role at BioMarin. The Sr. Director will lead a team of procurement professionals in Global Sourcing and Procurement (GSP) focused on the Technical Operations organization, managing $600M+ annual spend and collaborating with internal partners to support BioMarin's manufacturing site operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of procurement professionals in establishing and executing category strategies for the Technical Operations organization.
• Drive and implement industry-leading procurement practices, foster stakeholder relationships, and drive continuous improvement in ways of working.
• Collaborate with category leaders across GSP to ensure TOPS (Technical Operations) is fully supported and optimized.
• Develop deep relationships with stakeholders and external suppliers; mentor and develop team members.
• Manage sourcing and category management strategies across Direct Materials, packaging, CMOs/CDMOs, capital spend, facilities management, real estate, and site services.

Strategy & Leadership

• Plan strategically and align sourcing and category strategies with BioMarin goals; drive change and create clarity in ambiguous environments.
• Stakeholder management: build credibility, manage senior stakeholders, and become the procurement accountability point for the Technical Operations Leadership team; foster cross-functional alignment.
• Partnership with Corporate Finance & TOPS leadership; align with finance to support functional stakeholders.
• Provide leadership within the GSP Leadership Team and advocate for the GSP organization across the company.
• Maintain external perspective on industry trends and evolving procurement practices; contribute to supplier knowledge and standards.
• Demonstrate Source-to-Pay expertise and support related technology enhancements.

Operational Focus

• Develop and implement sourcing strategies to drive savings and risk mitigation; support transformational projects.
• Lead Supplier Relationship Management with strategic suppliers; optimize the supply base.
• Lead complex negotiations aligned to BioMarin's operational and business goals.
• Deliver measurable outcomes with defined SLAs/KPIs and a multi-year pipeline of opportunities.
• Contribute to Source-to-Pay transformation with process and tech solutions; collaborate across the value stream.
• Ensure compliance with policies and procedures; support internal audits as needed.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Senior procurement leadership experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology with strong executive presence and collaboration across leadership levels.
• Experience with procurement technology (e.g., Ariba / SAP).
• Expertise in sourcing Direct Materials, packaging, CMOs/CDMOs, facilities management, and site services.
• Strong supplier management, complex contract negotiations, and cross-functional influencing skills.
• Growth mindset, results-driven, excellent communicator, and ability to work in a matrix/global environment.
• Ability to operate under pressure with tight deadlines.
• 15+ years in Procurement/Sourcing/Supply Chain; knowledge of finance and contracting; strong business acumen.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related field. MBA or related postgraduate qualification preferred.

Area of Specialization

• Sourcing & Procurement for Direct Materials, Supply Chain; global experience in pharma preferred.
• Proven category strategy development, stakeholder management, and supplier relationship management.
• Experience with procurement tools (sourcing, bidding, contract management); Ariba/SAP preferred.
• Strong financial and legal contracting knowledge; ability to assess business value and risk.

Travel

• Periodic travel to BioMarin sites and supplier locations as required.

Workstyle

• Hybrid role with local presence; Novato campus onsite requirements 2x per week.
