The Department of Literacy Studies and Elementary Education (LSEE) prepares aspiring teachers for California public schools. As the home department to SSUs Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program, we immerse teacher candidates in theory, research, and pedagogical practices across content areas and grade levels in the elementary school setting (TK through Grade 6). The program emphasizes diversity of culture, language, and race and prepares candidates to teach with breadth and depth in diverse settings.

Specific courses associated with supervision are: EDMS 482 P (Part-time Student Teaching), EDMS 482 F (Full-time Student Teaching), EDMS 482 S (Student Teaching Seminar).
To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:
Master's degree in Education (or related field) required; experience with new teachers, teacher candidates/student teachers, or struggling teachers; experience with diverse student populations. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of 3 years recent experience as a teacher or principal in public elementary school or in teacher education, a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a relevant content area, Reading/Dual-Language/Eld certificates or bilingual authorization (preferred), a CA teaching or admin credential (preferred), and bilingual/biliterate ability in Spanish & English (preferred).
Full-time workload is 15 units per semester. Salary is dependent on units, education, and funds, subject to CSU system salary increases.
