Preschool Teacher/Early Childhood Educator

The JCC Preschool Teacher reports to the ECE Director or Preschool Site Director. The person in this position works directly with the children and their families enrolled in the Early Childhood programs.

Responsibilities

  • Interactions with children must reflect respect, compassion and a willingness to gently guide the child.
  • Plan, implement, reflect upon and document developmentally appropriate curriculum for the children in accordance with the policies and the philosophy of the school.
  • Gear the program to the needs of the individual child with concern for their interests, individual style and stage of development; assist each child to become aware of their role as a member of the group, while reinforcing positive self-esteem, and consciously promoting a diverse and anti-bias atmosphere.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom and learning environment in the classroom and play yard.
  • Keep records on each child, including attendance, accident log, developmental growth, conference records and notes home.
  • Document each child's learning experiences and developmental growth to guide curriculum planning.
  • Maintain health and safety procedures and ensure children are under supervision at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional communication with children, staff, parents, and consultants to meet individual needs and build partnerships between school and home.
  • Communicate with parents through scheduled conferences, weekly newsletters, and daily documentation.
  • Conduct home visits as required.
  • Assist in public relations and community events; model for and mentor assistant and new teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Teacher level: minimum AA or higher in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD), or equivalent; or an AA/BA with at least 60 units + 24 college credits in ECE/CD; or 24 CD units + 16 GE units and current enrollment in AA/BA program.
  • Associate Teacher level: minimum 12 ECE or CD units; must demonstrate ability to perform job responsibilities; if not AA, must be continually enrolled in AA program or CD/ECE classes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient English language skills; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office) and virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom).
  • Understanding and implementation of cleaning and disinfecting procedures per Licensing and Public Health guidelines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing responsibilities and procedures.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $35,000 - $45,000

  • Agency classification: Teacher or Associate Teacher depending on formal training
  • Hourly rate: $21.17 - $25.35
