Job Summary / Overview

The Safety Ambassador promotes the safety of clients and staff by providing security and necessary intervention to respond to and help de‑escalate crisis situations. CommuniCare+OLE provides an inclusive workplace that values diversity and life experience, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years' experience working directly with the public.
  • Preferred: Experience working in clinics providing substance use and/or mental health services.
  • Must possess de‑escalation and crisis intervention skills.
  • Must have knowledge or the ability to learn motivational interviewing, de‑escalation techniques, and mental health first aid.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Utilize verbal de‑escalation skills during crisis intervention.
  • Connect and build rapport with clients in crisis.
  • Visit waiting rooms regularly to assist clients when possible.
  • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; inspect buildings, equipment, and access points; permit entry.
  • Obtain help when necessary by calling codes, calling 911 or emergency personnel, and/or sounding alarms.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses.
  • Assist clients, patients, vendors, and/or contractors with finding their way within the clinic.
  • Serve as an information resource for clients, patients, vendors and/or contractors needing assistance.
  • Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities; inform violators of policy and procedures.
  • Regularly check bathrooms and make sure they are clean and stocked.
  • Maintain the entire property in an attractive, comfortable condition.
  • Assist with trash pickup on the property.
  • Regularly patrol parking lot to ensure vehicles are secure.
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting facility safety concerns to appropriate staff.
  • In collaboration with the Health Center Manager, support routine safety drills.
  • In collaboration with the Health Center Manager, be present if needed to present a behavior contract to a patient.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
