Commodity Specialist

Contract role – 6 months (extendable)

Work Location – Hercules, CA – Fully Onsite Work – 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday

Base pay range

$40.00 /hr – $50.00 /hr

As a commodity specialist, you'll play a key role in ensuring a reliable, cost‑effective supply of specialized materials and components that enable scientific and medical innovation. In this role, you'll monitor global market trends, partner with engineering, quality, and operations teams, and negotiate with suppliers to balance cost, quality, and continuity of supply. You'll analyze cost drivers, support new product development with sourcing insights, and ensure supplier compliance with industry and regulatory standards. You'll also apply your project management skills to lead cross‑functional initiatives—such as qualifying new suppliers, transitioning materials, and implementing cost‑reduction programmes. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on technical problem‑solving, strategic collaboration, and making a tangible impact on products that advance human health.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Lead and/or manage projects of varying scope and complexity.
• Use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues.
• Execute supply strategies in collaboration with site personnel.
• Manage supplier relationships and escalated issues with site/region‑specific suppliers.
• Participate in supplier AVL development, supplier compliance tracking, supplier business continuity, and contract spend management.

What You Bring

• Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, logistics, Business Administration, or related discipline.
• Work Experience: 5‑8 years in sales, purchasing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in project management.
• Knowledge and application of the principles and theories of purchasing.
• Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and multitasking skills with exceptional organizational skills.
