Responsibilities

  • Represent the County in civil & public law litigation, including defense, pre-trial, trial, writ, appellate work.
  • Advise county departments: Human Resources/Risk, Sheriff's Office, Probation, DA, Public Defender.
  • Prepare & present civil cases before administrative bodies, state & federal courts.
  • Manage discovery, trial, writ, appellate work and Public Records Act compliance.

Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney in California with current active State Bar membership.
  • Minimum one year of legal experience practicing civil or governmental law.
  • Strong research, writing, oral communication skills.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in civil litigation, employment & labor law, writs, probate law, land use, environmental law, administrative law, legislative drafting, contracts, housing law, real property law, Brown Act, FOIA, water law, cannabis regulation, taxes, constitutional law.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and eliminating bias.
  • High standards, drive to set & achieve goals.
