All About Asset Protection

Assets Protection (AP) teams work to keep our guests, team, and brand safe and secure, and lead through crisis events. They protect profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing and resolving theft and fraud, and building relationships internally and externally with store leaders and public safety officials.

Skills and Experience

• Intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure
• Crisis response, safety and crowd management supporting both guests and team members
• De‑escalation skills and experience with physical security controls and culture
• Proficiency with Target's video surveillance system
• Accurate and timely documentation of cases using case management systems

Typical Day (Responsibilities)

• Greet guests at the front of the store to create a welcoming experience
• Promote a physical security culture by assessing and maintaining safe standards throughout the store and exterior property
• Respond to and document security incidents promptly
• Appropriately address guest issues to secure the environment for team members and guests
• Use de‑escalation tactics and resources when responding to incidents
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, adhering to AP policies
• Prevent theft and shortage front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks and communicating trends
• Submit documentation in the case management system for all incidents following AP policies
• Utilize Target's video surveillance system as required
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance culture
• Work safely, comply with safety policies and training, and report hazards
• Perform other duties as required by business needs

Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Meet all state or local licensure and other legal requirements for the position
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members
• Proficient communicating on multiple frequency devices and operating handheld scanners and other technology equipment
• Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and with a team
• Capacity to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
• Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment to accomplish tasks within established timeframes

Other Expectations

• Climb up and down ladders
• Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy
• Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting or moving up to 40 pounds
• Maintain a flexible work schedule and reliable attendance
• Work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental elements while performing job duties
• Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
