Mandarin-Speaking Nanny & Early Childhood Educator

  2026-05-02     Global SF Family     Sonoma,CA
Description:

About the Role

We are a warm, multicultural family in the San Francisco Bay Area with three children under four, seeking a long-term Mandarin-Speaking Governess & Early Childhood Educator. This role is ideal for a Mandarin-speaking early childhood professional who enjoys supporting young children's development in a private family setting. The position combines early childhood education, Mandarin language immersion, and hands-on nanny responsibilities.

This is ideally a live-in role. However, we may consider a live-out arrangement for a strong candidate already located in the Bay Area. For the right long-term fit, relocation assistance may be available from elsewhere in the U.S.

We are looking for someone nurturing, organized, reliable, and experienced with babies, toddlers, and preschool children. The right candidate will be comfortable both designing developmentally appropriate learning activities and supporting the everyday care routines that help young children feel secure, confident, and independent.

Mandarin fluency is very important to our family. Conversational English is required; fluent English is highly preferred.

Our family travels frequently, both domestically and internationally. Candidates should have work authorization in the U.S. and be eligible for W-2 employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a warm, engaging Mandarin-speaking environment through conversation, books, songs, stories, play, outings, art, movement, and everyday routines.
  • Design and lead developmentally appropriate learning activities that support language development, independence, emotional growth, creativity, social skills, and early academic foundations.
  • Bring an early childhood education perspective to daily routines, play, transitions, and child development.
  • Provide attentive, hands-on care for three young children.
  • Support daily childcare routines, including meals, naps, diapering/potty learning, dressing, hygiene, transitions, and bedtime as needed.
  • Help manage children's schedules, clothing, toys, books, learning materials, meals/snacks, laundry, and play areas.
  • Coordinate closely with parents and other caregivers to maintain consistent routines, communication, and developmental goals.
  • Support occasional children-related family logistics, activities, events, and travel preparation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fluent Mandarin speaker.
  • Conversational English required; fluent English highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a governess, early childhood educator, preschool teacher, nanny, or similar role.
  • Background in Early Childhood Education, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, child development, elementary education, or a related field.
  • Strong experience caring for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children.
  • Comfortable caring for multiple young children.
  • Open to a live-in role, or already located in the Bay Area for a possible live-out arrangement.
  • Work authorization in the U.S.; W-2 eligible.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and comfortable driving in an urban environment.
  • Strong references from prior families, schools, or employers.
  • Comfortable with hands-on childcare duties, including diapers, meals, children's laundry, tidying children's areas, and daily routines.
  • Organized, active, discreet, professional, and comfortable around small dogs.
  • Comfortable with frequent domestic and international family travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a preschool, Montessori school, daycare, elementary school, or other formal educational setting.
  • Prior private family, live-in, or governess experience.
  • Experience caring for multiple children.
  • CPR certification and pediatric first aid training.
  • Familiarity with Positive Discipline, Conscious Discipline, Montessori methods, or similar child-centered approaches.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $120K–$150K, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and schedule.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Live-in accommodations, if applicable.
