Overview

A growing publicly traded biotechnology company is seeking a Senior Manager, SG&A Accounting to lead SG&A accounting operations and serve as a strategic finance partner across more than 40 departments. This individual will oversee the close process for SG&A activities, manage and mentor accounting staff, and help drive process improvement and scalability initiatives as the organization continues to grow.

The role offers strong visibility across the business and significant exposure to operational accounting, contract review, SEC reporting support, and cross-functional partnership within a fast-paced public company environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial close process for SG&A-related activities in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee day-to-day SG&A accounting operations, including general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and close support
  • Serve as a finance partner to over 40 departments across the organization
  • Drive projects and system/process improvement initiatives to support scalability and operational efficiency
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff while fostering team development and accountability
  • Review and determine appropriate accounting treatment for a variety of contracts and agreements, including:
  • Consulting and professional services agreements
  • SaaS and subscription-based contracts
  • Milestone-based agreements
  • Medical grants and sponsorships
  • Conference and marketing agreements
  • Research and analytical service agreements
  • Assess accounting treatment related to expenses, accruals, prepaids, and capitalization
  • Review invoices and ensure expenses are properly recorded in the accounting system
  • Support quarterly reviews, year-end audits, and SEC reporting activities
  • Build strong relationships with business leaders and act as a trusted accounting advisor
  • Continually identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8+ years of relevant accounting experience, including accounting management experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and operational accounting processes
  • Prior experience within biotech or pharmaceutical environments preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Big Four experience is a strong plus
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems preferred
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement capabilities
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional partnership skills
  • Self-starter mentality with strong accountability and attention to detail
