COMPASS is a Comprehensive Assessment and Stabilization Program that provides highly individualized, client and family driven treatment intended to stabilize the child, meet immediate needs such as mental, emotional, physical health and academic and social needs as well as provide for on-going care and sustainable transition back to family and or identified caregivers.

The Residential Counselor provides crisis support, structure, mentoring, and coaching to youth while providing a safe and nurturing environment. Residential Counselors will work in collaboration with the treatment team to assist the youth in stabilizing and will perform case management duties as needed. The Residential Counselor can adapt to the changing locations of the youth which may include residential settings, homes, community-based programs and school settings. Residential Counselors may also provide support across multiple programs as determined by the needs of the clients and overall program census.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the treatment team in the intake process, including creating a welcoming environment for the youth and reviewing behavioral expectations 
  • Provide behavioral and crisis stabilization services utilizing Seneca’s behavioral model to ensure the safety of the youth
  • Facilitate a life skills group and assist in developing services, strategies, interventions and activities to support the youth across different environments    
  • Supervise youth across different environments, providing supervision for visits with family when necessary 
  • Promote youth and family connections by partnering with families and community members   
  • Plan and lead community-based activities for youth (may include families)  
  • Engage the youth in therapeutic activities and projects as well as educational activities 
  • Work in collaboration with the parent and/or treatment team members, to implement and assist youth in meeting identified treatment goals
  • Complete daily progress notes and incident reports as needed and outlined by Seneca’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in weekly supervision and team meetings
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and paperwork

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Own vehicle, California Driver's License, and insurance
  • Experience working with youth in residential care preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish skills a plus
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprinting, and any other State/Federal requirements
  • Own vehicle, California Driver’s License, and insurance

Schedule

  • Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday
  • Shift options: 7am - 3pm or 3pm - 11pm
